Cos’è la realtà? Forse solo un concetto soggettivo, un costrutto di illusioni che ognuno di noi crea in quanto essere-nel-mondo, apertura al mondo… Ogni uomo è un essere che trascende se stesso, che crea un suo universo, lo plasma. Sente il limite insito nella sua natura, la siepe che si frappone tra la sua finitudine e l’infinità del possibile… percepisce il vuoto ontologico, quella voragine di insoddisfazione, nucleo indistruttibile di incomunicabilità, e da questa penombra crea la sua esistenza, concepisce il suo progetto, si dispiega con le sue fallibilità.
Cos’è il dolore? Forse una tra le cose più profondamente e intimamente umane… il dolore per una perdita, la sofferenza causata da una malattia, la disperazione della solitudine, il chiedersi nel silenzio di una notte “questa landa desolata porterà mai altro?”… ma anche la possibilità di sperimentare nuovi cammini per lenire quel dolore, per accogliere l’ombra, accettarla e farne una sfumatura e non un mostro voracizzante.
L’idea di questa mostra nasce dalla riflessione sul ruolo dell’arte. Da sempre l’uomo, sospeso come un funambolo, “in bilico sulle scale di Escher”, corteggia la sua effimera leggerezza e si diverte “nel gioco dell’arte”. Costruisce narrazioni, racconta storie, partorisce miti, pennella impressioni… racconta la sua realtà, la sua visione, per entrare in relazione, per raccontare ciò che è.
Questo nostro progetto, in particolare, vede dischiudersi tre mondi: quello di un ragazzo di 23 anni che si vede un “pazzo solipsista” e che nella scrittura trova una ragione di essere, di sussistere; quello di una donna che ha saputo reinventarsi mille volte e percorrere altrettante vie; e quello di un uomo che ha dedicato molto tempo ad osservare, a pesare i silenzi, scovando sparuti e incostanti sprazzi di bellezza anche nelle profondità più recondite.
Questi tre poli dialogano, si intrecciano, curano l’altro e se stessi, donandosi “pennellate esperte per questa sera tarda”. Ed è così che l’inesprimibile, quel groviglio spesso e denso che ognuno di noi si porta dentro, inizia a trasparire, a mostrarsi nella sua preziosa impalpabilità.

What is reality? Perhaps merely a subjective construct, a tapestry woven from illusions that each of us fashions in our being-in-the-world, our openness to the world... Every man is a being that transcends himself, forging his own universe and shaping it to his measure. He senses the boundary inherent in his nature, the barrier between his finitude and the boundless realm of possibility... he perceives the ontological void, that abyss of dissatisfaction, that indestructible core of incommunicability, and from this penumbra he summons his existence, conceives his project, and unfolds himself in all his fallibility.
And what of pain? Perhaps it is among the most profoundly and intimately human of experiences... the pain of loss, the suffering wrought by illness, the despair born of solitude, the silent questioning in the dark of night — "Will this barren land ever bear fruit again?"... Yet also the possibility of discovering new paths to ease that pain, of embracing the shadow, accepting it, and transforming it from a devouring monster into a mere nuance of existence.
The genesis of this exhibition lies in a reflection upon the role of art. From time immemorial, man, suspended like a tightrope walker "precariously poised upon Escher’s stairways," has courted his own ephemeral lightness and has delighted "in the play of art." He constructs narratives, weaves tales, births myths, sketches impressions... recounting his reality, his vision, as a means of entering into relation, of expressing his being.
This project, in particular, witnesses the unfolding of three distinct worlds: that of a young man of twenty-three who perceives himself as a "solipsistic madman" and finds in writing his raison d’être; that of a woman who has reinvented herself countless times; and that of a man who has dedicated much of his time to observing, weighing silences, uncovering fleeting glimpses of beauty even in the deepest recesses of existence.
These three poles engage in a dialogue, intertwining, tending to one another and to themselves, offering each other "masterful brushstrokes for this late hour." And thus, the inexpressible — that thick and tangled knot each of us carries within — begins to seep forth, revealing itself in its precious, impalpable fragility.
